Peskov on Pashinyan's Statement
The spokesperson of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, addressed the comments made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding Russian peacekeepers during a press briefing with journalists today. This information has been reported by Ria.ru.
“Russian peacekeepers operate in accordance with the spirit and letter of the agreements. They do everything possible to ensure order and tranquility in the areas where they function. They operate in alignment with the relevant documents signed between the countries. We will certainly continue to discuss this topic with our Armenian partners and allies,” Peskov stated.
It is noteworthy that during today’s government meeting, Pashinyan declared that the Russian peacekeeping contingent is effectively failing to fulfill its commitment, namely, to maintain control over the Lachin Corridor. It is mentioned that since 10:30 AM on December 12, the connection of the villages of Lisagor, Mets Shen, Hin Shen, and Yeghtsahogh in the Shushi region with the capital Stepanakert has been interrupted.
A group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothes has again blocked the Stepanakert-Goris highway, allegedly citing environmental reasons. A decision has been made during a meeting of the Artsakh Security Council to send a letter to the command of the Russian peacekeeping forces. A meeting of the Armenian Security Council has also taken place regarding the Goris-Stepanakert route. Armenia has declared the necessity of activating international mechanisms for ensuring the rights of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians. An operational headquarters has been established under the leadership of Ruben Vardanyan, which will operate around the clock to coordinate efforts in response to the blockade of the road linking Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Furthermore, the Azerbaijani side has shut off gas supplies to Artsakh on December 13.
