When Can the Red Cross Mediate the Resolution of the Crisis in Artsakh and What Can Be Done

As of now, one patient has been transferred from Artsakh to Armenia through the mediation of the Red Cross. Zara Amatuni, head of communication programs at the Red Cross Armenian office, told "Factinfo" that the transfer was based on a request received from Artsakh.

“We are in constant contact with both the authorities of Artsakh and Armenia. We have informed them about our capabilities, but the assessment of needs and priorities is determined by local bodies. Based on the relevant requests, we can mediate for the resolution of specific issues,” said Amatuni.

The Red Cross Armenian office has not received any other requests for assistance from Artsakh. Due to the blockade of the only road connecting Armenia and Artsakh by Azerbaijan, the Red Cross has not received any letters or requests from Artsakh residents who are unable to return home.

“The needs of the Artsakh residents remaining in Armenia are mainly addressed by the Armenian authorities, but we are in contact with them to understand how we can assist. So far, we have only provided recreational and psychological support to the children remaining here. Our office in Goris is in direct contact with the residents who remain in Nagorno-Karabakh,” Amatuni added.
