Belarus and Russia Plan to Jointly Create Three Satellites

Belarus and Russia will start creating a joint satellite constellation in 2023 as part of a new scientific and technological program of the Union State, announced Sergey Zolotoy, the director of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus’ "Geoinformation Systems".

According to the representative of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, next year, the implementation of the eighth program “Комплекс-СГ” will begin, which focuses on the development of key elements for orbital and terrestrial objects. The goal is to create small-sized spacecraft for a joint multi-satellite constellation to monitor the Earth's surface and near-Earth space.

He clarified that the Union State’s “Комплекс-СГ” program envisages the creation of three satellites. One satellite will weigh 200 kg, while the other two will be smaller, around 10 kg each.

In November, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko mentioned that Belarus and Russia are working on the creation of a joint satellite constellation, which will be used for military purposes and beyond.
