Armenia and Russia Consider New Opportunities in Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy: Ovchuk
Cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy is a significant theme for both Armenia and Russia, as the parties explore new opportunities. This was announced by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Ovchuk during a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Armenia and Russia.
"Cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy is an extremely important topic in bilateral relations," Ovchuk stated. He announced that the parties are considering new opportunities in this sector.
It should be noted that Russian enterprises from the Rosatom group have participated in the modernization of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant. Most of the renovations have been carried out with funding from the Russian government. Calculations regarding the cost of the new energy block are also being conducted by Rusatom Energy Projects, one of the subsidiaries of the Rosatom group. Currently, the data will be approximate but will serve as a starting point for the technical and economic justification, which should be ready no later than the end of 2025.
It is assumed that the power of the energy block will be either 1000 or 1200 megawatts. Both options consider Russian reactor designs.
