Zakharova Responds to Pashinyan's Statement on Peacekeepers

Russian peacekeepers are fulfilling their mission in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a weekly briefing, commenting on the expression of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Previously, during a government session, Pashinyan had spoken about the situation in the Lachin corridor, claiming that the Russian peacekeeping contingent is also not fulfilling its obligations as stipulated in the de facto tripartite agreement (regarding control over the corridor). Of course, according to him, such occurrences are happening due to Azerbaijan's illegal actions, but the situation does not change, as the main purpose of the presence of Russian peacekeepers is to prevent illegal activities.

“I can say the opposite. Russian peacekeepers are carrying out their mission... Steps are being taken, work is underway,” said Zakharova.

According to her, there have been escalations in the past, and the parties have accused each other, but it is precisely the Russian peacekeepers who have done everything to stabilize the situation, and they have succeeded. Therefore, according to Zakharova, such an attitude towards the Russian peacekeepers is unacceptable.
