Artsakh National Assembly Appeals to UN for Deployment of Monitoring Group

The National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh has made a statement regarding the international response to the blockade of the Republic of Artsakh by Azerbaijan. The statement particularly notes: “On December 12, 2022, under the pretext of a false environmental rationale, once again grossly violating the agreements reached in the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, the authorities of Azerbaijan blocked the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia and the outside world, the Lachin corridor, turning it into a humanitarian disaster and threatening fragile peace, with a tendency towards new destabilization in the region.

The highest legislative body of the Republic of Mountainous Karabakh (Artsakh) expresses gratitude to the concerned countries and international organizations, including the UN Security Council and the European Court of Human Rights, for responding to the humanitarian crisis created in the blocked Republic of Mountainous Karabakh (Artsakh) by Azerbaijan.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh is appealing to the UN to deploy a monitoring group in the framework of the Environmental Programme (UNEP) to investigate the provocations of the Azerbaijani authorities under the guise of environmental pretexts, to understand the regional environmental issues, and to present the corresponding conclusions. We expect effective steps to resolve the crisis situation that has arisen in the region.”
