Thousands of fans welcomed Argentina's national team in Buenos Aires.

Argentina's squad has become world champions for the third time. On Sunday evening, the immensely dramatic match between the double world champions Argentina and France concluded at the World Cup held in Qatar.

In the final, the Argentinians struck twice, taking the lead over the French team with goals from Lionel Messi from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute and Ángel Di María in the 36th minute. However, towards the end of the second half, Kylian Mbappé first reduced the deficit in the 80th minute and then equalized just a minute later.

Both teams exchanged goals in the extra half hour as well: Messi scored again in the 108th minute, and Mbappé brought the score to 3-3 in the 118th minute, again from the penalty spot. Eventually, the Argentinians were more successful in the penalty shootout, winning 4-2, and Argentina's national team secured the World Cup for the third time.
