Housekeepers Discover 12.5 kg of Gold in Uninhabited Home on Orbeli Street

As a result of extensive investigative measures carried out by the investigation department of the Yerevan City Investigative Committee within the Arabkir administrative district, a considerable quantity of gold ingots weighing a total of 12.5 kg has been discovered. Measures are being taken to clarify the circumstances within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings.

In particular, as a result of investigative and procedural actions, two residents of Yerevan presented separate gold ingots hidden in various locations: one weighed 6 kg 860 grams, while the other weighed 5 kg 652 grams, consisting of both complete and fragmented pieces.

According to preliminary data obtained during the investigation, the two women were hired as housekeepers to work in one of the apartments located on Orbeli Street, which was uninhabited at the time. From October to November 2022, they completed cleaning at the specified address. After finishing their work, they took the collected garbage from the apartment to dispose of it. Noticing that the trash was unusually heavy, driven by curiosity, they opened it and found numerous gold-colored metals wrapped in paper. Believing these to be gold, they divided the items equally between themselves. One of the women hid her share in an apartment on Proshyan Railway Street in Kotayk Province, while the other concealed hers in a house on Avetisyan Street in the city of Hrazdan within the same province.

During the pre-trial investigation, the aforementioned individuals voluntarily presented their concealed shares at the specified addresses. A forensic examination has been appointed. Searches have been conducted, and a directive has been issued to the Armenian police to carry out operational-investigative measures. The pre-trial investigation continues, and all necessary measures are being taken to clarify the circumstances of the incident, including uncovering the sources of the approximately 12.5 kg of gold discovered, determining its legality, and assessing the actions of the involved individuals legally.
