VIDEO: Thai Royal Navy Warship Sinks, Sailors Missing

A Thai Royal Navy warship has sunk due to strong waves and winds, leaving over thirty sailors missing. According to The Guardian, more than 100 sailors were rescued from the Sukhothai warship on Sunday evening after strong winds caused the vessel to tilt sharply into the water, as stated by navy spokesperson Pokkrong Monthatphalin.

Water flooded into the ship, cutting off power and forcing the crew to lose control, Monthatphalin said. The water then poured into the hull, causing the ship to begin capsizing. At the time, the vessel was patrolling approximately 32 km off the coast of Bang Saphan in Central Thailand.

Storms were forecasted in the Gulf of Thailand, and ferry services were suspended after meteorologists warned of high waves and heavy rains on Sunday and Monday. Videos and images shared on social media show the Sukhothai tilted at nearly a 60-degree angle, with sounds of the wind and sailors’ shouts heard in the background.
