VIDEO: Man Opens Fire on Cafe Patrons in Athens
An unidentified man opened fire on patrons at a cafe in the Nea Smyrni area of Athens, killing two men and injuring one woman. It is believed that this incident is related to a mafia confrontation, according to Greece's public broadcaster ERT.
Footage from security cameras has been released showing the attack. The incident occurred on a Sunday evening when the cafe was bustling with people. The assailant, wearing a medical mask and hat, moved between the tables set up on the street and opened fire at people seated at one of the tables before fleeing the scene.
Reports indicate that the victims are of Albanian descent. The injured woman was nearby, but her life is not in danger. The television station notes that the shooting took place in a crowded area.
“According to reports, one of the deceased was associated with criminal circles,” ERT stated, labeling the incident a “mafia attack.”
