«I’m not well, release me». Vigen, detained with Maral, alarmed from Baku prison
Vigen Euljekyan's mother, Ms. Beatrice, spoke with her son a week ago: "He said, 'Tell them to release me from here.' His voice is sad, very sad, almost crying."
According to 'Azatutyun', Vigen's mother is anxious, stating that his life is in danger and he is ill. Vigen's wife, Linda Euljekyan, insists similarly: "Vigen weighed 95 kg, now he has become 45. Vigen is sick, he doesn’t eat. The Red Cross has said that there is an opportunity to send food to all prisoners. Now, I am preparing a parcel for him as well."
Linda shows the contents of the parcel, while their daughter, Kristine, chooses the products. They have been instructed that the boxes must have only English or Turkish letters, and no Arabic words are allowed. Although Linda speaks Arabic, she is required not to speak this language with her husband—this is also a demand from the Baku prison guards: "Vigen calls once a month for 50 seconds. During the last phone call, he wanted to speak in Arabic and convey something, but he was forbidden. I heard shouting at that moment... Vigen said, 'I’m already dead, what else do you want from me?'"
Lebanese-Armenian Vigen Euljekyan had relocated to Shushi months before the 44-day war. He was captured just hours after the tripartite statement while going to Berdzor and then Shushi with Maral Najaryan to collect personal belongings, noting that official news did not mention the capture of Shushi. Vigen had only been on the front line for one week, but official Baku presented him as a mercenary fighting for $2,500 and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
Linda is pleading for her husband’s release across all Lebanese television channels, appealing to the Lebanese and Armenian authorities: "I want the Armenian authorities to also speak about Vigen."
