VIDEO. "We do not want a judicial system that serves the whims of current or former authorities" - Torosyan

Today, on December 6, during a session of the National Assembly, the issue of electing a member of the Supreme Judicial Council is being discussed. The "My Step" faction has nominated Doctor of Law Hayk Grigoryan for the position. During the session, My Step MP Arsen Torosyan posed the question: "If elected as a member of the Supreme Judicial Council, what steps will you personally take to ensure the independence of the judicial system, including from the current government? Our commitment is to have an independent judicial system and not one that serves the whims of current or former authorities." Grigoryan responded, "A member of the Supreme Judicial Council has one way to influence: that is fair voting. In all cases where disciplinary proceedings are initiated by the Ethics and Disciplinary Issues Committee of the Assembly of Judges or the empowered body or the Anti-Corruption Commission and are presented for discussion by the Supreme Judicial Council, I will certainly vote impartially, using my voice, based on the principles of legality and the supremacy of law."
