«We Don’t Want This»: US Does Not Exclude Military Action Against Iran

The US special representative for Iran, Robert Malley, has not ruled out the use of military force against the Islamic Republic, although Washington prefers diplomatic avenues to reach an agreement regarding Tehran's nuclear program.

“We don’t want this (military solution), this is not our path, this is not what US President Joe Biden wants. But if all other options fail, military action remains as a last resort. The President has made it clear that he will not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons,” he stated in an interview with La Repubblica on Monday.

He emphasized that priority is always given to diplomacy, but “Iran is not showing that it genuinely wants to return to the agreement.”

“And now there are two more important factors we are focusing on: Russia's military assistance and the suppression of peaceful protests,” Malley noted, pointing out that the role of the United States is to support “rights and fundamental freedoms.”
