It Is Necessary to Sign the Draft Decision of the CSTO on Providing Aid to Armenia: Zas
It is necessary to sign the draft decision of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) on measures to provide assistance to Armenia. This was stated by the Secretary General Stanislav Zas during the session of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow.
Zas recalled that, at the instruction of the heads of state, a monitoring mission had been developed in Armenia, headed by the Secretary General and the head of the CSTO operational staff. As a result of this work, a draft decision of the Collective Security Council on joint measures to assist Armenia has been prepared, which was discussed at the council's meeting on November 23.
“Due to the differing positions of the CSTO member states, it was not possible to adopt this draft. I hope that after certain revisions we will reach its signing and the adoption of these measures. I am confident that this is necessary, including for Armenia,” said the Secretary General.
It should be noted that on November 23, a summit was held in Yerevan with the participation of the leaders of CSTO member states, during which it was not possible to sign two documents: a declaration and a statement on providing assistance to Armenia. In this regard, the Prime Minister of Armenia stated that he had refused to sign the document due to the organization’s unwillingness to provide a political assessment of Azerbaijani aggression.
