Limited Opportunity for the U.S. to Play a Stronger Role if Russia Pulls Out of the Region, Tracy on the Conflict
During a hearing before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Lynn Tracy, the nominee for U.S. Ambassador to Russia, spoke about Armenian-American and Armenian-Russian relations. Before being nominated for the ambassadorship in Russia by President Joe Biden, she held the same position in Yerevan.
“The U.S. has a valuable role to play in resolving the tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan. At the heart of the conflict are, of course, the disputed territories and the need for a sustainable solution that protects the rights of Armenians and Azerbaijanis living there. If the U.S. has limited opportunities to assume a stronger role in quelling the violence, it is primarily due to Russia's withdrawal from the region,” said Tracy.
