“Armenians Refuse the Model Proposed by Russia”: Lyn Tracy
U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Lyn Tracy stated that the last two elections in Armenia demonstrate that “Armenians are rejecting the model proposed by Russia.” Tracy made this remark during hearings at the Congressional Foreign Affairs Committee while being forward for the position of U.S. Ambassador to Russia.
“Unfortunately, several former Soviet republics continue to depend on Russia. I believe that the U.S. and Armenia have managed to work towards reducing dependencies and adopting a more Western direction. In 2018, the Armenians held the freest and fairest elections in the country’s history, and in 2020, they went through a war, which is one of the greatest stresses for a democratic state,” said Lyn Tracy.
According to her, there were again free and fair elections in Armenia in 2021, and “Armenians have told me that they do not want the return of corrupt leaders and want to have a better future.”
“Armenians say that the current relationship with Russia does not meet Armenia's needs today. And currently, the U.S. and Armenia are engaging in very important dialogue on how we can support a more democratic and secure future for Armenia,” Lyn Tracy stated.
