Video: The World's Largest Active Volcano Erupts

The world's largest active volcano, Mauna Loa, located in the Hawaiian Islands, has erupted for the first time in 40 years, reports bbc.com.

Lava is flowing from one side of the volcano. The eruption poses no threat to local communities, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on Monday afternoon.

"All indications suggest that the eruption will remain in the Northeast Rift Zone," the agency stated in its announcement.
