Video: Major Signed Agreement with Foreign Special Services – NSS Disclosure

As a result of extensive operational and intelligence measures developed and undertaken by the military counterintelligence department of the National Security Service of Armenia (NSS), it has been revealed that a citizen of Armenia, a major officer of military unit N of the Ministry of Defense, came under the attention of foreign special services in July 2021, was recruited by them, and signed an agreement regarding cooperation.

The NSS reports that subsequently, after being assigned to another military unit of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia as the head of one of the unit's services, the officer received proposals via messages from foreign special services to continue his cooperation and accepted them. He agreed to collect and hand over information constituting state and service secrets in the military sector to foreign special services for the purpose of harming the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and external security of the Republic of Armenia, in return for compensation. During the execution of his criminal activities from February to November 2022, he collected information constituting state and service secrets in the military sector and delivered it to a representative of a foreign special service through various mobile applications he used. This included various documents with classified markings, details about the location of his service, orientation, types and numbers of subdivisions, as well as information concerning the operations of these subdivisions in the eastern and southern directions of the Republic of Armenia. In return for this, he received a total of $19,700 from the representative of the foreign special service on various days, thus committing state treason against the territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia.

A criminal case has been initiated in the investigative department of the NSS for this officer, who has been charged and is detained by court order as a preventive measure. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.
