Over 700 Prisoners Released in Iran Following Football Victory
The Iranian authorities have released 715 prisoners following the national football team’s victory over Wales in the World Cup held in Qatar. This decision was made under the directive of Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, head of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic.
According to reports from TASS, Fars news agency announced the details on Tuesday. The head of Iran's judiciary praised the accomplishments of Iranian footballers, noting their "dedicated attitude in the World Cup that brought joy and happiness to the people of Islamic Iran, serving as a manifestation of national unity and the spirit of collectivism."
The Iranian team secured a 2-0 victory against Wales on November 25, following a loss to England with a score of 2-6 in the opening match. This marks the third victory for Iran in the history of its World Cup participation. Although the Iranians have never advanced to the World Cup knockout stages, they now have promising chances for a better performance.
