Iran Demands USA National Team Be Suspended for 10 Matches for Insulting National Honor

Iran has requested a 10-match suspension for the USA national football team. According to The Guardian, the Iranian Football Federation has lodged a complaint with FIFA's ethics committee, demanding that the American team be suspended for 'insulting Iran's national honor.'

"According to FIFA regulations, any individual or group that insults a country's dignity or integrity must be suspended for at least 10 matches or a specific period," the complaint states.

Yesterday, the USA team's social media shared the standings of Group B after two rounds of the 2022 World Cup group stage. The Iranian flag displayed only green, white, and red stripes without the Islamic Republic's emblem.

The USA team explained that the design of the flag was shared in support of 'women fighting for basic human rights.'

FIFA has declined to comment on the matter, but sources close to the organization indicate that a suspension of the USA team is unlikely.

The USA and Iran teams are set to meet in the third round of the 2022 World Cup group stage. The match will take place tomorrow, November 29.
