NASA Captures Image of Ukraine in Total Darkness from Space
The American NASA space agency has released a satellite image of the Earth's surface taken at night, showing Ukraine in darkness, as reported by RIA Novosti.
The photograph, taken on November 24, depicts Ukraine enveloped in absolute darkness, surrounded by lights from other countries, including Russia.
On Wednesday, Ukraine's Ministry of Energy announced that all nuclear power plants, most thermal power plants, and hydroelectric plants had been temporarily shut down due to Russian strikes, leaving the overwhelming majority of electricity consumers without power.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Energy reported that electricity supply had been restored to critical infrastructure facilities.
According to the Ministry of Defense, a massive strike was carried out on November 23 against Ukraine's military command and control system and related energy facilities, hitting all intended targets.
Russian forces began to target Ukrainian infrastructure on October 10, two days after a terror attack on the Crimean bridge, which Russian authorities claim was carried out by Ukrainian special services. The strikes are aimed at energy, defense industry, military command, and communication facilities. Since then, air raid alerts have been declared daily in Ukrainian regions, and sometimes across the entire country.
It is also worth noting that yesterday, the wife of the Ukrainian president stated in one of her interviews that Ukrainians are prepared to live for two to three years without electricity and heating for the sake of joining the EU.
