Europe as a Civilization is Now Preserved in Russia – Zakharova
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on the proposal directed at Serbia in Europe to join sanctions against Russia and recognize Kosovo's independence, calling it "laughable."
"This is truly laughable. What is left of Europe in the EU? Only the geographical reference to the mainland. Europe as a civilization is now preserved in Russia," she wrote on her Telegram channel.
Zakharova added that the European tradition has been destroyed within the EU, the ancient postulates of law and justice have been distorted, and Christian values and the ideals of humanism have been abandoned.
At the end of October, the EU expressed hope that Serbia's new government, led by Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, would conduct a common foreign policy in line with Brussels. At the same time, Brnabić noted that the "red lines" for the new cabinet would be the adoption of independent decisions in foreign and domestic policy and the preservation of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.
The Prime Minister emphasized that EU membership continues to be Belgrade's strategic goal, which simultaneously receives signals from Brussels that further progress depends on two issues: the EU, namely whether sanctions will be imposed against the Russian Federation, and how quickly and in what manner a final agreement will be reached regarding the normalization of relations with Pristina.
As Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said last Thursday, if Belgrade imposes sanctions against Russia, the EU, praising that step, would demand recognition of Kosovo "within one day."
