Corruption Prevention Commission Appeals to NSS
According to the "Zhoghovurd" daily, the Corruption Prevention Commission of Armenia has submitted a request to the National Security Service (NSS) to have its operational intelligence group check the assets of all state officials. This investigation will seek to determine, for example, whether they own undeclared businesses, real estate, or movable property, or if they are driving a vehicle that is not listed in their declarations.
The "Zhoghovurd" daily has learned that the Corruption Prevention Commission has provided a significant number of names of state officials, including the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers, the President of Armenia, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and members of parliament, among others. We will follow the developments to determine what results the law enforcement checks will yield. Will they be genuine, or merely a pretext for persecution?
It should be noted that the "Zhoghovurd" daily reported that Armenian state officials have recently been receiving notifications from the Corruption Prevention Commission. The notification includes specific inquiries directed at public officials, demanding them to disclose their connections with certain businesses and property management. It is also possible that mass wiretapping could begin to expose wrongdoing by officials.
