Soldier Arrested for Murdering Comrade and Injuring Two Others

The preliminary investigation of a criminal case initiated regarding the murder of a soldier and the gunshot injuries inflicted on two others has been completed. One soldier has been arrested. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

It is noted that the preliminary investigation has concluded with enough factual data available. According to the investigation, on December 10, 2021, around 19:30, a dispute occurred between soldiers in the barracks of the RA Ministry of Defense's military unit N, during which a conscript soldier opened fire in the direction of his comrades using an "AKM" type assault rifle with intent to kill. As a result, one conscript soldier suffered a fatal gunshot wound, while two other conscript soldiers were transferred to a medical center with various gunshot injuries.

Based on sufficient evidence, charges were brought against the conscript soldier under parts 1 and 6 of Article 104, as well as part 1 (3 episodes) of Article 521 of the RA Criminal Code (effective July 1, 2022), and part 1 of Article 258 (3 episodes), and preventive measure of arrest was chosen. Charges have also been brought against two other soldiers involved in the incident under part 1 of Article 521 of the RA Criminal Code (effective July 1, 2022).

The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the materials of the criminal case, with an accusatory conclusion, have been submitted to the prosecutor overseeing the proceedings for referral to court.
