Famous Actresses Arrested in Iran for Removing Hijabs
Iran has arrested two well-known actresses who expressed solidarity with the country's protest movement by publicly removing their headscarves. This was reported by state media.
The IRNA news agency states that Hengameh Ghazian and Katayoun Riah were arrested after being summoned by the prosecutor's office to investigate their "provocative" posts on social media.
According to The Guardian, Iran’s spiritual leadership has been shaken by more than two months of protests that began after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish woman who was arrested by the Tehran morality police.
The authorities of the Islamic Republic label the protests as "riots" and accuse Western enemies of fueling them.
Ghazian posted a video on Instagram in which she removes her hijab. "Maybe this will be my last post," she wrote.
