VIDEO: How the Shiveluch Volcano Erupted in Kamchatka

On November 20, the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka began to erupt. The footage shows ash billowing from the volcano and covering the surrounding area. The ash plume reached heights of up to 5,000 meters. This information is reported by "Izvestia." The eruption response team indicated that the ash has spread 10 km to the northeast in the Ozernoy Bay region. There are no settlements in the vicinity.

Earlier reports suggested that Shiveluch was preparing for a powerful eruption. The Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences warned that approaching the volcano within 15 km is dangerous. The ash emission could reach 20 km and impact the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - Ust-Kamchatsk highway.
