Beer Will Not Be Served During World Cup Matches in Qatar
In just two days, beer sales will be prohibited at stadiums and surrounding areas during the World Cup in Qatar. This announcement was made today by FIFA, the International Football Federation, stating that the decision was reached after prolonged negotiations between Qatari authorities and one of the tournament's main sponsors, AB InBev, which produces Budweiser.
“As a result of the discussions, it has been decided to concentrate the sale of alcoholic beverages in designated fan zones and licensed establishments, removing points of sale from the stadiums and their vicinity,” reads the statement from a FIFA spokesperson.
“A significant portion of the fans coming to the tournament are from the Middle East and South Asia, where alcohol has little place in local culture. This is the reason why the presence of alcoholic beverages could cause discomfort to these individuals,” FIFA representatives noted.
