VIDEO: Yes, the transport situation in Armenia is not good – Avinyan

The issue of urban transportation has not been resolved with the arrival of new buses, as the problem could not be solved with that number of buses. This was stated by Tigran Avinyan, the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, during a conversation with journalists after the government meeting on November 17.

“The phased reform has put us in a situation where we have a small number of buses in operation, and all the previous Gazelles have been taken out of service and removed from all routes. Yes, the transport situation is not good. By the end of the year or in January, we are expecting 150 new buses, and next year we are expecting 80 new 12-meter MAN buses. But with their arrival, we cannot say that the transport reform has been completed,” the deputy mayor said.

He added that a unified ticketing system still needs to be implemented.

Regarding the progress of the construction of a new metro station, Avinyan stated that work is ongoing in this regard. “The timelines I have outlined have not been violated, and work is ongoing. We have already accepted the documents, and after signing those documents, we will receive the second phase. Next year we will have the Ajapnyak metro project, and I am confident that the metro station in Ajapnyak will be constructed,” Avinyan added.
