Video: 'The Best Defense Against Drones is Not Russian' – Khachatryan

In the National Assembly, journalists inquired with the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security, Armen Khachatryan, about his agreement with the opposition representative Tigran Abrahamyan's view that the weapons currently prioritized for Armenia can be purchased from Russia. Khachatryan noted that Armenia is acquiring more munitions from Russia within the framework of contractual obligations, but there are types of weaponry that must be procured from other countries.

“The best test for weapons is war; we have seen the 44-day war, we observe military operations in Ukraine, Syria, and our experts know far better what weapons we need. Of course, Russian weapons constitute a significant part of our military capabilities, and there are quite effective weapons that have proven themselves in all wars, but there are also weaponry that should be obtained from other countries,” Khachatryan stated.

Khachatryan said that if Tigran Abrahamyan follows the military operations, he will understand that 'the best defense against drones is not Russian' and added that efforts to procure weapons are actively being conducted, with discussions ongoing with several countries.

According to Khachatryan, the necessity for weapons is beyond debate, and he emphasized that the Armenian manufacturers also have quite good developments in electronic warfare, which implies passive methods for air defense. He stated that significant work is being carried out in this direction.

“I envision Armenia’s future as a military-industrial nation. We have no other option; we must be able to produce and export the best weapons. Much is being done to achieve this, although the results are not being showcased. The most important asset we have is raw materials, intellect, and professional capabilities, which we will continue to develop,” Khachatryan remarked.
