Which Areas Have Become Dangerous Zones Following Azerbaijan's Recent Aggression? Tatoyan Provides Details

The former Human Rights Defender of Armenia and head of the Tatoyan Foundation, Arman Tatoyan, stated during a press conference that as a result of the Azerbaijani armed attacks and incursions on September 13-14, 2022, an area of 2,700 hectares from the Kapan community in the Syunik region has come under Azerbaijani occupation.

In total, 2,400 hectares of specially protected areas, 170 hectares of forest land, and 130 hectares of community lands have been occupied. According to Tatoyan, most of the agricultural land in the village of Nerkhin Hand is located in inter-communal zones. The drinking water source in the village has fallen under Azerbaijani occupation, leading to a cessation of water supply for drinking or irrigation purposes.

The former Human Rights Defender noted that 300 hectares of agricultural land in the villages of Geghahunsh and Gomaran have also fallen into inter-communal zones, and local livestock farmers have ceased using these areas due to losses in livestock numbers. “According to our studies and ongoing monitoring, in addition to the mentioned 2,700 hectares, an additional 1,140 hectares have become a dangerous zone where agricultural or other types of work are impossible. Specifically, in Nerkhin Hand - 240 hectares, in Srashten - 160 hectares, in Shikahogh - 240 hectares, in Jakatun - 200 hectares, and in Geghahunsh - 300 hectares are in the dangerous zone,” Tatoyan said.
