Evacuation of 3 Million People in Kyiv: What to Expect
Preparations for the "total evacuation" of residents in Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, have begun, reports the New York Times.
Officials in the city have revealed plans for the once unimaginable possibility of a complete shutdown of electricity, which would require the evacuation of nearly three million residents, according to the newspaper.
On Saturday, Ukraine's national energy company announced that it would continue power outages in seven regions.
“We could lose our entire energy supply system,” Roman Tkatchuk, director of the city's municipal security department, told the New York Times.
Previously, Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that Kyiv is at risk of being left without electricity, water, and heating. He also reported that 450,000 apartments in Kyiv are currently without electricity, which is one and a half times more than in previous days, as the situation remains critical due to the overload of Ukraine's energy system.
