A Ground Assault on Crimea Would Be Catastrophic for Ukraine: The Hill
A decision to organize an assault on Crimea could be catastrophic for Ukraine, writes The Hill.
“A large-scale Ukrainian ground assault on Crimea could be very risky,” the article states.
According to the authors of the article, Crimea is connected to the mainland by a narrow strip that is likely to be well defended, and the Russian army will be able to conduct engineering work that could block a land campaign.
The article notes that Ukraine might attempt to increase pressure for a land assault from the sea; however, Kyiv lacks helicopters and other landing ships, and carrying out such operations against defended shores could result in a catastrophic failure.
Earlier, the head of the Crimea parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, stated that the peninsula is eagerly awaiting a visit from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
