VIDEO. Piqué Leaves Barcelona and Retires

Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué has announced on social media that he is leaving the Catalan club and retiring from football. Chempionat reports that the 35-year-old player released a farewell video in which he shares his decision.

Piqué's last match will be against Almería in the 13th round of La Liga.

“You, the fans, have given me everything. Now that all my childhood dreams have come true, I want to say that I have made a decision. It is time to end the journey. I have always said that for me there are no teams other than Barcelona. That will remain the case. On Saturday, I will play my final match at Camp Nou. I will become a regular fan and support the team. I will pass my love for Barcelona to my children, just as my family has passed it on to me. And you know me, sooner or later I will return. We will meet at Camp Nou,” he said.

Piqué is a product of Barcelona's academy. In 2004, he left the club's academy and moved to Manchester United, where he played until 2008 (except for the 2006/07 season, when he was loaned to Zaragoza). During his time with Manchester United, Piqué won the Premier League, the FA Community Shield, the EFL Cup, and became a Champions League winner.

In 2008, Piqué returned to Barcelona, where he spent 14 years. He won La Liga 8 times, the Copa del Rey 7 times, the Supercopa de España 6 times, the Champions League 3 times, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

With the Spanish national team, Piqué became a world and European champion. The final match of the player's career with Barcelona will be against Almería on November 5.
