There is one good and one bad news: Mirzoyan
In the Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations, there is one good and one bad news. This was stated today by Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during the discussion of the 2023 state budget draft in the National Assembly.
The bad news is that in all matters and directions where Armenia is negotiating with Azerbaijan, it encounters that country's maximalist and revisionist positions. “My impression is that Azerbaijan, considering that it has had military successes, may now dictate certain conditions to Armenia. This, of course, cannot be a reality. It is not possible to achieve long-term, comprehensive, and stable peace through this way. I hope that Azerbaijan will understand this more clearly over time,” said Ararat Mirzoyan.
According to the minister, if Azerbaijan wants and is interested in having stable peace in the South Caucasus, it must acknowledge that one-sided beneficial solutions cannot exist in some matters. “Simply, this cannot work, it will not be long-term,” the minister indicated.
He added that the good news is that there is a clear attention from the international community regarding the existing problems in relations. “When we analyze the timeline, we see that this attention is currently increasing more and more. Especially after the Azerbaijani aggression on September 13-14, the international community sent a very clear message to Azerbaijan that the use of force, the threat of the use of force cannot be a way to resolve issues,” Ararat Mirzoyan added.
The minister noted that there are rules and boundaries that should not be crossed, and expressed hope that this message will be well understood in Azerbaijan.
It is worth reminding that on October 31, a trilateral summit was held in Sochi with the participation of the leaders of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan, Nikol Pashinyan, Vladimir Putin, and Ilham Aliyev. As a result of the negotiations, a joint statement was adopted. Within the framework of the Sochi summit, the foreign ministers of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan, Sergey Lavrov, and Jeyhun Bayramov, also had a private conversation.
