Video: We Struggled to Convince Nikol Pashinyan to Become Head of the CP Party, Says Alen Simonyan
It is evident that there has not been a more open and democratic party in Armenia. You have never seen that voting in any party takes place online, and the results are announced. If everything was predetermined, 48 parties would not have entered the race for 15 positions. This was stated by the National Assembly President Alen Simonyan during a press briefing, commenting on the transparency of the election of the governing body of the "Civil Contract" party during its convention.
Addressing Nikol Pashinyan’s election as head of the party’s governing body, Simonyan noted: "For the first time in the party's fourth governing body, the head of the country is elected, especially given that Armenia is a parliamentary country. We faced great difficulty in convincing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to agree and for the first time he has accepted. His candidacy has been raised in the first, second, and third governing bodies, and the Prime Minister has consistently declined, one of the proposers being me, because in a parliamentary country this is the correct logic. We have fully entered into the form of parliamentary governance," said Simonyan.
In response to journalists' questions about whether there are divisions within the party and if members are split into certain factions, Simonyan stated that he has no information about such divisions, and they are merely rumors.
