It is noted that the raising of this flag is akin to a declaration of war. The last time a red flag was raised was following the assassination of Qasem Soleimani in 2020.

Previously, a terrorist attack had occurred at the Shah Cheragh mosque, where armed men opened fire on the people present. The Islamic State terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attack.
