Gambling has become the leading sector of the economy in Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in the National Assembly. He expressed happiness that consistent steps are being taken in this direction.

“But we should not stop at banning advertisements; of course, the government is working on creating more effective systems for taxing gambling,” noted Pashinyan.

The Prime Minister emphasized that it is horrifying to note that many citizens receiving family and social benefits spend a significant portion of those benefits on gambling. “We need to take effective steps to put an end to this, because if a citizen can waste 90 percent of their benefits on gambling, the question arises: why is the government paying them?” highlighted Pashinyan.

He mentioned that they will allow gambling only through bank cards and accounts, which means that every person making a bet will be identified.

Referring to the state budget of Armenia, Pashinyan expressed a strong desire for a significant and profound change in the public's attitude towards paying taxes and the state budget. “A person has income, conventionally speaking a pocket; if Armenian citizens keep their money in their right pocket, they should consider the Armenian state budget as their own left pocket,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
