VIDEO: I Believe We Have a Very Important Change in the Situation, Says Prime Minister

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, considers it important that this year he has had both a phone conversation and a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He stated this during the discussion of the draft state budget for 2023 in the National Assembly.

“This is extremely important. If you ask whether we have any change in the situation, I believe we have a very important change. It is not in itself a deep, practical, and substantive result, but by analyzing the situation, I realized that the communication complexities and difficulties we had in relations with Turkey from August to October have been overcome,” said Pashinyan.

According to him, this may seem like a weak and insignificant thing, but there has previously been a question of whether to meet or not, whether to talk or not. According to Pashinyan, today this complexity has been removed not only at the government level but also at the societal level.

Pashinyan emphasized that work on implementing the peace agenda will continue.

It is noteworthy that the Prime Minister of Armenia participated in the European Political Community summit in Prague on October 6, where he had a quadrilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, and also attended an informal meeting with Turkish President Erdoğan and had a private conversation with him. During the quadrilateral meeting, Armenia and Azerbaijan reaffirmed their commitment to the UN Charter and the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, through which both sides recognize each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
