The Main Challenge is to Prevent the ZNPP Shelling: Russian Foreign Ministry

The Russian Ministry of Defense is examining the issue of establishing a security zone around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), with the main challenge being to prevent shelling from Kyiv. This was stated to journalists by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko.

“Let’s not make any predictions, because this is a complicated issue that is currently being actively studied by our departments, primarily the Ministry of Defense. The main task is to prevent shelling of the ZNPP by Ukrainian Armed Forces,” he said.

He added that the presence of IAEA experts at the plant may help minimize the shelling. “We know how active the cooperation is here with the IAEA and the experts who are at the plant. There is regular rotation of those staff members. We hope that this will allow us to minimize at least the dangerous incidents that are fraught with nuclear disaster,” Rudenko emphasized.
