Ferry Freight Transport: What Has Changed for Armenia

The ‘Joghovurd’ newspaper reports that a document from the Russian Ministry of Transport has come to light. Specifically, due to high loads of vehicles at the ferry area and to eliminate crossings at the ‘Caucasus’ port towards the Republic of Crimea, a waiting line for loading on ferries has been created. This decision will establish a list of goods that are permitted for transportation.

Thus, priority for freight transportation will be given to the Republic of Crimea. Permitted loads will include perishable goods, followed by vehicles transporting goods, and pharmaceutical products. Moreover, it is recommended that loads not belonging to the specified list should be sent using railway or road transport.

A list of perishable goods has also been published, including deep-frozen and frozen foods, other perishable products, quickly perishable items such as fruits, vegetables, dairy products, sour milk, food, meat and meat processing products, and other food items that require temperature-controlled transportation.

In the end, what do these changes imply, and how will they affect the prices of goods sold in Armenia?

Yesterday, ‘Joghovurd’ newspaper attempted to get answers to these questions from the Minister of Economy, Vahan Kerobyan. After a conversation with reporters, he agreed to answer our specific questions too, but when he discovered which media outlet we represented, he decided that he should not respond since he had already spoken. Unfortunately, this behavior does not resolve the issue of the ban on imported goods into Armenia.
