Shangri La Demands Additional 1.4 Billion Dram Deduction from Taxes

The leader of the Prosperous Armenia party and businessman Gagik Tsarukyan’s Shangri La Casino is demanding that the State Revenue Committee recognize 1.4 billion drams as an overpayment and reduce the tax levied on the casino. This information was reported by the information platform 'DataLex' and covered by Civilnet.am.

In July, the government decided to compensate the Shangri La Casino for the license fee on behalf of the company, considering that the license had been suspended by a decree of the Minister of Finance, alongside accumulating penalties and fines. In court, the legal entity of Shangri La, 'Onira Club,' had won against the Ministry of Finance, forcing the government to compensate the casino's losses.

'Hetq' later revealed that the government compensated 'Onira Club' not for 4.2 billion, but for 5.6 billion drams. Following the completion of this compensation process with the government, Shangri La is currently operational, but the company has raised new demands against the State Revenue Committee.

According to 'DataLex,' 'Onira Club' is demanding that the entire amount of taxes paid for the year 2020 be recognized as an overpayment and undergo recalculation. The demand for recognizing the overpayment concerns approximately 1.4 billion drams. 'Onira Club' had approached the court requesting interim measures for the lawsuit, but on October 25, Administrative Court Judge Arthur Tsaturyan denied the request. The first court hearing for the company’s lawsuit against the SRC will be held in January.
