Our Primary Task is to Renew the Foundation of the State, Says Prime Minister
“The founders of the 'Civil Contract' decided that it should not be this way, and we should not accept these realities, and that we must fight against them, because the ongoing election fraud, corruption, lawlessness, and economic monopolies drain and waste the viability of the country and disrupt the future. We saw that our regions and remote areas were crumbling before our eyes, schools were closing and deteriorating, illiteracy among children was expanding at a rapid pace, and people were being deprived of their right to education, while Armenia was losing its sovereignty and independence.
This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a speech at the sixth congress of the 'Civil Contract' party, where he presented the prevailing conditions in Armenia before the Velvet Revolution.
“I must admit that we were not the only group with such a mindset in the Republic of Armenia. In fact, we were part of a larger group that thought the same way, because we essentially participated in almost all opposition and popular movements of the Third Republic, which had the aforementioned issues or some of them on their agenda. In this regard, we were not exclusive or the first,” the Prime Minister said, noting that the 'Civil Contract' public-political association later turned into a party, setting this issue at the base of its activism.
“We declared our primary task to be renewing the foundation of the state and presented a specific program to the public, a program that was approved at the founding congress of the 'Civil Contract' party, which took place on May 30, 2015,” the Prime Minister added.
