Russia Aims to Facilitate Peace Treaty Signing Between Baku and Yerevan
Russia will continue to assist and facilitate the signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was stated by Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko during a meeting with the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, on Friday, October 28.
“Russia has acted as a mediator and will continue to support the two countries in the matter of signing a peace treaty,” emphasized the speaker.
Earlier, on October 27, it was revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin would participate in an extraordinary meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council. The day before, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced plans for a meeting of CSTO member states to clearly assess the situation and adopt a roadmap for restoring “Armenia's territorial integrity.” He also expressed hope that a peace treaty would be signed with Azerbaijan by the end of 2022.
