Ohanyan: The Washington Document is Unacceptable to Us

The most acceptable format for resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh issue for the opposition in the Armenian Parliament is the Armenia–Russia–Azerbaijan format. This was stated by Seyran Ohanyan, the leader of the "Armenia" faction and former Minister of Defense of Armenia, during a conversation with journalists.

"The Russian perspective creates hope that we can address the question of the resolution of the Artsakh issue in the future," Ohanyan said, contrasting it with the Washington proposal, which resolves the status of Artsakh once and for all. From this perspective, the U.S. suggestion is unacceptable for the "Armenia" alliance.

"The Washington document is unacceptable to us, as recognizing Azerbaijan's territorial integrity throws a large stone on the fate of Artsakh, and Artsakh ends up being part of Azerbaijan. From here arises the great danger that Artsakh could be depopulated and deprived of its right to live in its historical region for millennia," Ohanyan stated.

The former minister expressed concern that by following the Western position, Armenia could find itself at the center of power struggles among great powers. Furthermore, Ohanyan is confident that the West will exclusively conduct a monitoring mission and will not resolve security issues.
