Our Perspective is As Follows: The U.S. on Armenian-Azerbaijani Relations
The United States emphasizes direct dialogue as crucial in overcoming any issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was stated by Vedant Patel, Deputy Spokesperson of the U.S. State Department, during a press briefing with reporters.
“The U.S. Secretary of State has underscored that the U.S. is committed to Armenia-Azerbaijan peace negotiations, and we have called on the two leaders to meet in any format that would be most beneficial for them. Our perspective is as follows: direct dialogue is key to resolving issues and achieving lasting peace. There is no supporter of the sovereignty and independence of the three countries of the South Caucasus more than the U.S.,” Patel noted, stressing that the United States had similarly supported the restoration of independence for Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia in 1991, a moment that “ensured each of those countries' right to promote their own foreign policy interests and sovereignty.”
