Biden Calls Rishi Sunak's Appointment a 'Historic Change'
U.S. President Joe Biden stated that Rishi Sunak's appointment as Prime Minister of Britain is a historic change. For the first time in British history, a politician of Asian descent will lead the government. Biden made these remarks at the White House during a ceremony marking Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with Indian guests.
Sunak's family moved to Britain from India in the 1960s. He was born in Southern England and educated at Winchester College, as well as at Oxford and Stanford universities.
Sunak is married to Akshata Murthy, the daughter of Narayana Murthy, one of India’s wealthiest individuals and the owner of Infosys Limited, a major player in the information technology sector. Currently, she is considered one of the richest women in Britain.
