Zelensky Explains Why He Cannot Surrender Territories for Peace
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he has yet to come to terms with the reality of war. In a conversation with a correspondent from Canadian television network CTV, he expressed that he forbids himself from treating pain and killings as normal.
“I do not want to live in a reality where war, suffering, death, and pain are commonplace; I need the determination to think about victory every day. I want to remain human,” Zelensky said.
Russia is heavily bombarding Ukraine's water supply and energy systems with missiles and drone strikes. The West claims that such actions are intended to terrorize ordinary citizens as winter approaches.
In the interview, the Ukrainian president also rejected the possibility of achieving peace with Russia by yielding territories. “The Russians do not understand that I cannot trade away something that does not belong to me. These lands are neither mine nor belong to any president before or after me. These lands belong to the people of Ukraine; they belong to future generations,” Zelensky asserted.
He also emphasized the importance of accountability and justice, stating that he is not concerned about what may happen to Vladimir Putin. “I do not want to confuse the concepts of ‘peace’ and ‘accountability.’ For a person who has lost a loved one, peace alone is not enough. All those accused of war crimes must be held accountable,” concluded Volodymyr Zelensky.
