Pedagogical University Discusses University Merger

The Pedagogical University hosted an expanded session of the Scientific Council. The agenda included the merger of the V. Brusov Linguistic University and the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports of Armenia with the Pedagogical University. This information was noted in a statement released by the Pedagogical University.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Ministers of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasian and Karen Turtchunyan. The latter assured that the leaders of the universities were informed about the idea of the merger, and the draft decision has been circulating since October 7. The deputy minister emphasized that the aim of the reforms to merge universities is to create institutions with specific orientations, stating that the newly established university in the pedagogical field should be based on the Pedagogical University.

Participants of the expanded session of the Scientific Council directed several questions to the deputy ministers regarding the university merger. These questions primarily concerned the merger of chairs serving the same scientific direction, increasing interest in the teaching profession, the future of non-pedagogical specialties at the Pedagogical University, as well as the naming of the newly established university and several related matters.

The deputy ministers assured that they are willing to listen to all proposals, opinions, concerns, approaches, and justifications from the universities, and to discuss provisions that may cause disagreements. A decision was made in the Scientific Council that the university is ready to support the process of merging universities with its resources and to participate in the merger process through proposals and justifications, for the benefit of the development of pedagogical higher education,” the statement from the Pedagogical University reads.
