Kyrgyzstan Proposes Deployment of CSTO Troops Along Tajikistan Border
In an effort to de-escalate the situation along its border with Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan considers it appropriate to deploy a military contingent from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the area where recent conflicts have been observed. This statement was made by Kyrgyz Defense Minister Baktybek Bekbolotov during a press conference in Bishkek on Wednesday, as reported by TASS.
“There will be no peace and calm at the border until a judge stands between the Kyrgyz and Tajiks. A small group of CSTO troops could be deployed to the disputed areas to monitor the withdrawal of military hardware and the ceasefire,” he said. According to the minister, only after the arrival of CSTO military personnel at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border will it be possible to continue the delimitation process.
