Historic Achievement: First Armenian Female Boxer Becomes European Medalist
For the first time in the history of Armenia, our country will have a medal in the Women's European Boxing Championships for adults. This was reported by the Armenian Boxing Federation.
“Sona Harutyunyan, competing in the 63 kg weight category, secured our first medal in the ongoing tournament in Budva, Montenegro. In the quarter-final, the Armenian athlete faced the Georgian Tekle Laminidze and won decisively. Throughout all three rounds, Sona displayed a tactically astute performance. Utilizing her height advantage, she kept her opponent at bay and delivered timely strikes. As a result, all judges awarded the victory to Harutyunyan with a score of 5:0. She has reached the semi-finals and secured at least a bronze medal,” the statement said.
It is also noted that the president of the Armenian Boxing Federation, Hovhannes Hovsepyan, is present alongside our boxers in Budva.
